Monetary policy
We set the policy rate to ensure low and stable inflation in Norway.
Monetary policy objectives and instruments
The Storting and Government define the objectives of monetary policy by law and regulation. Norges Bank's role is to contribute to achieving the objectives. The key instrument of monetary policy is the policy rate.
The policy rate
The policy rate is Norges Bank's main instrument for stabilising inflation and developments in the Norwegian economy.
Inflation
The monetary policy target is annual consumer price inflation of close to 2 percent over time.
Regional Network
On a quarterly basis, Norges Bank surveys executives from over 300 enterprises and organisations about recent economic developments and the outlook ahead.
Output gap
Norges Bank operates a flexible inflation targeting regime, so that weight is given to both variability in inflation and variability in output and employment.
