Survey of Bank Lending

Tighter credit standards for households

Series:
Survey of Bank Lending
Number:
1/2012

Banks tightened credit standards for households in 2012 Q1, but kept credit standards for enterprises approximately unchanged. The tightening of credit standards for households is explained by Finanstilsynets (Financial Supervisory Authority of Norway) new guidelines and is reflected in stricter loan conditions. Loan conditions for enterprises have tightened. Banks do not expect further tightening in Q2 for households or for enterprises. Credit demand from households and enterprises was approximately unchanged. Banks do not expect any change in credit demand in Q2.

In its work on monitoring financial stability in Norway, Norges Bank uses extensive statistics on developments in credit and financial markets. In order to expand the information base, Norges Bank conducts a quarterly survey of bank lending. The survey provides information on changes in the demand for and supply of credit and on changes in banks’ loan terms and conditions. Objective of the Bank Lending Survey
