Nordic Climate Workshop at Norges Bank

Nordic central bank Deputy Governors are meeting at Norges Bank to discuss the central banks’ work on climate change.

Climate change and the transition to a low-carbon economy affect the economy and financial markets. As such, central banks’ core tasks are also affected.

The purpose of the Nordic Climate Workshop is to reach out to a broad public about the ongoing and planned work in this field at the Nordic central banks.

"The Nordic countries have much in common, not least in the climate area. This is an excellent starting point for a fruitful discussion. A good understanding of how climate change and the transition to a low-carbon economy affect the economy and the financial system is important to central bank policy," says Deputy Governor Ida Wolden Bache.

The working meeting is being streamed live on Norges Bank’s website. Following Deputy Governor Wolden Bache’s opening remarks, the central banks will present some of their analytical work. The workshop will conclude with a panel discussion among the five Deputy Governors.

"Even though the main responsibility and the most effective tools to combat climate change lie with the political authorities, central banks play a role, not least in studying the economic consequences and contributing to improving data and reporting," says Deputy Governor Wolden Bache.
