Little change in credit demand
- Series:
- Survey of Bank Lending
- Number:
- 4/2019
Banks reported little change in credit demand from both households and enterprises in 2019 Q4. Credit standards and lending conditions were unchanged. Lending rates increased somewhat in both segments for the second consecutive quarter, reflecting somewhat higher funding costs. Margins on loans were approximately unchanged in both segments. For both segments in 2020 Q1, banks expect marginal change in overall credit demand and credit standards. Banks also expect somewhat higher margins on loans to non-financial enterprises.
In its work on monitoring financial stability in Norway, Norges Bank uses extensive statistics on developments in credit and financial markets. In order to expand the information base, Norges Bank conducts a quarterly survey of bank lending. The survey provides information on changes in the demand for and supply of credit and on changes in banks’ loan terms and conditions. Objective of the Bank Lending Survey
