Norges Bank to cease issuing special-edition circulation coins
On 5 March 2026, the Executive Board resolved that Norges Bank should cease issuing commemorative coins in the form of special-edition circulation coins.
The background to the resolution is low demand for coins and reduced public interest in such issues, making special-edition circulation coins less suitable for marking important national events.
No further commemorative coin issues are planned in the period up to 2029. The change will therefore not entail any major changes in the short term.
Norges Bank will continue to issue jubilee and commemorative coins in precious metal, but only in rare cases.
