Sale of the Royal Norwegian Mint

On Thursday 19 June, Norges Bank's Supervisory Council approved the sale of Den Kongelige Mynt AS (the Royal Norwegian Mint) to Samlerhuset AS Norge and Mint of Finland, each of which purchased 50 per cent of the shares. The sales price for the company is NOK 44 million. The shares will be transferred to the new owners on 30 June 2003.

"This is the best solution to ensure further development of the industrial operations in Kongsberg," said Mary Kvidal, Chairman of the Supervisory Council.

An agreement has been entered into concerning the purchase of Norwegian circulation and commemorative coins until the end of 2009. The buyers will provide DKM AS with expertise in the areas of production and the operation of mints. In addition, the buyers have a key position in both national and international markets for commemorative coins and medals. By focusing on the production of high-quality coins and medals and bringing in new assignments for the production of international circulation coins, the buyers plan to continue operations with the current workforce. A sale will strengthen the company's future prospects and contribute to the continuation of an old tradition of Norwegian coin-making.
