How to exchange withdrawn banknotes and coins

To exchange banknotes or coins at one of our depots in Oslo, Stavanger, Bergen, Trondheim or Tromsø, you must present a valid form of ID (passport, driver’s license, bank card with photo or national identity card). Certified copies of the document can be made at our depots.
To exchange banknotes or coins by post, confirm your identity beforehand using BankID via Norges Bank's electronic ID verification system. Norges Bank will check the name and account number on the submitted form against the electronic ID verification.
If you do not have, or do not wish to use, BankID, you must send a certified copy of a valid form of ID (passport, driver’s license, bank card with photo or national identity card) with the form and the banknotes/coins. Copies of identification documents for exchanging banknotes/coins by post can be certified by
- Norges Bank, a court, the police, the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV) or a notary public
- health personnel if the owner is hospitalised
- banks, finance companies, mortgage companies, investment firms, investment management companies, real estate agents, auditors, accountants and lawyers
