The seminars are designed to promote debate on key social and economic issues, particularly in areas of importance to the central bank, but the themes are far-reaching and lend themselves to discussion across disciplines and institutions.
2011: On managing wealth
Deputy Governor Jan F. Qvigstad gave the speech entitled “On managing wealth”. Professors Einar Lie and Eivind Smith, both from the University of Oslo, provided remarks on the theme.
The articles and a summary of the debate are published in Nytt Norsk Tidsskrift nr. 1/2012 (in Norwegian). The articles are translated to English and published in Norges Banks skriftserie / Occasional Papers 45.
2010: On making good decisions
Deputy Governor Jan F. Qvigstad gave the speech "On making good decisions". The invited commentators, Ingelin Killengren and Aanund Hylland, gave comments on the issue.

2009: On transparency
Deputy Governor Jan F. Qvigstad gave the speech “On transparency” from the central bank’s perspective and then there were three invited commentaries reflecting views from a professor of law, Inge Lorange Backer, a professor of political philosophy, Andreas Føllesdal, and a professor of political science, Bernt Aardal, respectively.
The four articles were published in Nytt Norsk Tidsskrift nr. 1-2/2010 (in Norwegian) together with a summary of the plenary debate at the seminar where Professor Aanund Hylland provides his reflections on the dilemma of transparency.

2008: On keeping promises
Deputy Governor Jan F. Qvigstad gave the speech "On keeping promises", a talk about the subject from the perspective of a central bank and then there were two invited commentators who discussed the issue from the point of view of a legal expert, Endre Stavang, and a philosopher, Henrik Syse, respectively. The plenary debate after the presentations was summarized by a leading Norwegian academic, Francis Sejersted.
